The Muellers could have taken a steamer, but Fritz wanted to experience the voyage on a wooden sailing ship. Der Adler (The Eagle) took them from Bremerhaven to the north of Scotland and out to open water.

Frederick George Miller, age 95, a lifetime resident of Kendallville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at his residence near Kendallville.


KENDALLVILLE - Frederick George Miller, age 95, a lifetime resident of Kendallville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at his residence near Kendallville.

Mr. Miller was born July 11, 1922, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Julius B. Mueller and Mabel L. (Hoffman) Mueller. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1940 and was a lifetime farmer. He married Evelyn Irene Werner on June 2, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. The couple was married nearly 72 years. Fred retired from farming in 1980. Fred enjoyed playing bridge. He belonged to various bridge clubs and enjoyed the many friends he made over the years. As a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, he served in the past as a trustee of the church. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and in his younger days, he was a member of Kendallville’s only semi-pro basketball team, Dice’s Red Devils.

Survivors include: wife, Evelyn Miller of Kendallville; daughter, Linda Huff of Auburn; daughter, Connie and Dave Barhan of San Leon, Texas; daughter, Carol and Sam Campbell of Kendallville; daughter, Patsy and Mike Bodenhafer of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Stanley Ackerman, Troy Ackerman, Michael Fry, Julie Frymier, Nicholas Barhan and Eric Barhan; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mae Imes, Laura Woodcock and Jean Smith; and son-in-law, Robert Huff.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 4 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville with Pastor Robert Shriner officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 2-4:00 p.m.

Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Troy Ackerman, Mike Fry, Dustin Fry, Nicholas Barhan, Eric Barhan and Jacob Slater.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkview Home Health and Hospice or to St. John Lutheran Church.
